Wedding Bells

Not too long ago I shot my first wedding. It's quite a hard business to get into (and rightfully so), needing experience that is impossible to obtain without prior experience. What an experience it was though! The action of the day always had me shooting, and the natural emotion in people always gave me something to shoot.

The main photographer's primary lens died so I loaned her my main lens, leaving me with my awesome 50mm, but it was quite an impediment in an indoor ceremony. My flash died as well, luckily the main photog lent me her spare for the evening.

Considering the circumstances and my lack of prior experience, I feel I did well. The experience I gained from this will definitely apply to future events, wedding or otherwise. Though, I hope to have the opportunity to shoot as a second in the future.

Fireworks in August?!

So I lied, I said I'd keep up with the blog and I clearly haven't.

So the Fourth of July came and went and I spent my night laying down in a parking lot as fireworks exploded above. Obviously I had to shoot it!

I also had an opportunity I have been waiting about 7 months for, and that was to shoot maternity portraits for the first time! Now, this was honestly more difficult than I had anticipated, but I like the results and so did the mommy to be, and that's what counts.

It's been too long.

Over the winter my camera suffered a deadly accident. As fun as snowboarding is, I don't htink I'll be attempting to shoot it ever again, either that or I'll use a more padded bag to store it in. Regardless, what's done is done and I have since replaced my gear. It took a while, but I replaced it. However, in my downtime my P365 came to a grinding halt.

I tried shooting on my phone, I thought about releasing old photos that have been stored for ages on my laptop that only I have seen, but I just never did.

I can't promise to continue my P365, at least not now. I can promise, however, to start shooting more, and posting here more. I shot my first wedding this week which really made me a nervous, and for the first time in my photography journey I froze up. I don't want to freeze up again, ever. So on this beautiful day today I shot a session for fun, like the good 'ol days.

Without further ado, here are the results. This is my fiance's step dad's '93 Harley Davidson Dyna Glide FXD. A gorgeous bike that has seen quite a few different looks over it's lifetime, but always looks and sounds amazing.

Moving Week

This week was quite busy, and I had to kind of hurry the shots, not much planning. Despite that, I'm still happy with the outcome.

I picked up a remote timer, so this week I hope to experiment with some light painting, but I will also be trying to shoot more people since it's getting nicer out and I have got to practice people photography. I may have the opportunity to shoot weddings this season as a second photographer. That would be incredibly valuable.

Day 058 - New Beginnings



This is my sister's new room, and I'm rather jealous. The windows are awesome, and the whole house is nice.

Day 059 - Babble.



Taking a break from moving I was able to snap this while out getting lunch. A relaxing brook running through town. I fell waist deep into what I thought was solid snow trying to get a little closer. Fail.

Day 060 - More of Less.



After moving and cleaning 16 years of junk, the place is looking pretty empty. I'm going to miss this house, I've been through a lot there.

Day 061 - Flower Power.

Day 062 - Let There Be Light.



Apparently that slogan is how you turn the lights on in this room. It worked, and I got a cool shot of the chandelier as well.

Day 063 - It's Miller Time.



For me, Jesse Miller, every minute is Miller Time. This clock just confirms it. I got this as a gift a few years ago, it surprisingly still works.

Day 064 - Happy Birthday!



Another birthday this month, two actually. My brothers was the end of February, and this was another friend of mine's. Deliciously funny cake.

Day 065 - Scene It: Disney Edition.



Playing a game is always a great way to wrap up a week. Losing twice, is not.

Whoa! A Self Portrait?!

Another week down, and another month as well. This project is quite fun, I'm having a blast and learning all sorts of new tricks. This week I played with my new 50 1.8 quite a bit more, and took the time to experiment more with light.

Day 051 - Urban Wonder



I headed into the city this week to work with my good friend from high school on my website. I bought a domain last week and I'm hoping to have the website live in the next few weeks! Stay tuned!!

Day 052 - Food Porn



Having Monday off from work, the lady and I went out to a nice brunch at the local iHop. I know, classy. This is the french toast cinn-a-stack and holy heck was it good! Tasted exactly like a giant cinnamon bun! Oh, and I'm in love with my new lens.

Day 053 - Anti-Picturetaker Portrait



This is Alex's step-brother Jared. He doesn't enjoy pictures too much, but I knew I could snap a keeper of him! Ok, I'll admit it. This was taken on Sunday but I couldn't let it miss the project, I love this shot.

Day 054 - Wild Card



Alex and I spent the night at my Mom's house and played a game of Five Crowns. If you guys haven't played, it's a great game and worth it to pick up if you see it. I totally won... not really :(

Day 055 - Food Porn: Take 2



Now this, this is a breakfast. I am usually in a rush for work but this time I had time to make me some food, and take a shot! Again, I'm in love with this lens.

Day 056 - The Man Behind the Lens



This is me.

This week I took the time to read some about lighting and decided to try what I've been reading. I don't use strobes, I use constant lights so I can see what I'm going to shoot without having to guess at settings. I'm really proud of this shot, and happy at how it came out.

For lighting I made a snoot for the main light and placed it about 3 feet away and raised it above me. The back light was about a foot away from me and about two feet from the wall.

Day 057 - The Proposal



This is another shot that happened on a different day :/ Man am I slacking or what? This happened on Valentine's Day but I was asked to keep it on the DL for a few days. My best friend Bobby proposed to his girlfriend, awww. Look forward for an engagement set come spring time!

Lot of mall time, and a new toy!

Day 042 - Diner Days



Went out for a bite to eat on lunch with my friend Bobby and his Dad. I was expecting pizza, but a plate of mac n cheese is good enough for me! I've been trying a bit more street photography, I really like the style.

Day 043 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!



Today was my brother's friend's birthday so we threw a little party and had a delicious cake.

Day 044 - Reflection Pool Church Panorama



I'm really liking shooting pano's, they're fun. I took my fiance Alex into Boston with Bobby and his girlfriend Ashley for a double Valentine's date. A nice night skating on the Frog Pond, a nice dinner at TGI Fridays, and a romantic walk around the reflection pool. It would have been more romantic had I remembered that they drain the pool in the winter :|

Day 045 - 100 Blooms of Love



Happy Valentine's Day!

I got these Peruvian lilies for my fiance for Valentine's Day. Flowers, a bear, chocolates and a lavender bath kit were well needed.

Day 046 - Paradise



This turned from a shot of the sky to demonstrate what shooting the sky without a polarizer looks like, to a pretty decent shot of the clouds. Now that I mention it, I really need a polarizer...

Day 047 - Confined Nature



Boy I've been spending a lot of time at the mall. Apparently, I'm not supposed to take pictures since it's private property. Oops. Oh well. I got the number for the mall's marketing manager thanks to the inspiration of a good friend. It would be so cool to sell some of my panos to the mall.

Day 048 - Bobby



This is the Bobby I've spoken of, just a quick portrait testing my flash bouncer.

Day 049 - New Toy!



Again, more time spent at the mall. I picked up a nice 50mm f1.8 at Ritz. I really like the lens, and I've only had it a day. Can't wait to see what it can do.

Day 050 - Cat Teaser



What a morning for my cats! They were going crazy over the birds sitting outside the window as the sun came up.

Oh, Hey Blogspot!

I skipped a week posting photos, but I didn't miss shooting them! It's been pretty busy, but I should fall back into my weekly posting schedule.

Here goes the longest blog post ever:

Day 031 - Natick Mall Panorama



I took a trip to the Natick Collection Mall to shoot another pano. I like their new-ish "yuppie" section, as it has a nice waterfall/reflection pond and the general architecture is awesome. Boy is that place busy, nothing what it used to be like.

Day 032 - Little People, Big World



This is my first attempt at street photography. I didn't have my 70-300 so this was shot pretty close as I was walking by to avoid looking like a pedophile. I usually shoot people, but delete the photo because it looks, idk, weird. I liked this one though.

Day 033 - Glass Trees



After a ton of snow, the skies opened to rain, making everything freeze over. It wasn't fun at all, but it sure made the trees look awesome, almost as if they were made of glass.

Day 034 - Our Future



With my fiance being a CNA and her mom studying to be an RN, scenes like this are all too common.

Day 035 - Spring's Final Stand



While driving home from work something compulsed (sic?) me to look up, and there I saw an apple, frozen over from the recent rain. This was a pretty cool shot, showing "Spring's final stand."

Day 036 - Wylie



Audience, meet Wylie. He is my best friend's Puggle and is an awesome doggie. He could nip less, but he's fun as hell. I managed to catch this shot after he had calmed down quite a bit and actually sat still. I edited this shot a bit differently than I usually do, and I really like the outcome, almost like a painting.

Day 037 - Very Funny



I had the opportunity to shoot Rooftopcomedy.com's nationwide search for the funniest college standup comic, sponsored by TBS. The show was hilarious and had a full house, despite it being Superbowl Sunday.

Day 038 - It's Here



When the iPhone was first announced, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Unfortunately, it was strict with AT&T. After years of waiting, the iPhone has finally been announced for Verizon. After staying up until 3am on 2/3/11, I pre-ordered the phone and it came in on 2/7/11, three days before it's in-store debut. Finally, and iPhone AND service :P

Day 039 - Taste the Rainbow



MMMMM, nothing like some candy and a movie after work. This was actually shot in a book case, not my lightbox, but shhh, don't tell anyone.

Day 040 - Love



Love.

Very simply put. With Valentine's Day coming, love is in the air. Plans are being made, and gifts and flowers are on their way. Don't be down on yourself those who are single out there, just have fun and you'll find someone <3 Day 041 - :unamused:
